When I first read the fic the very first time when he was introduced, I thought it was a long a. But it has no ee at the end so I assumed it was how it was really pronounced--like the a in "dad" Nav. And turned I was right, when I asked how to pronounce his last name. LOL

But, that's funny, like snobby British, Nav. Nov. :P That makes me giggle a lot.
