Ok, this was requested by jeh517 as a fanfic based on a comic book called I'm Curious (Black)!, and since it is a requested fanfic, I feel like I need to focus on only this until it's done. So for now, production on Temper Tantrum and Letters to Sweden is halted, until this is done. Hopefully it won't take too long. So here ya go, jeh517, and everyone else, this is We're Curious (Black and White)!


Chapter One: The Orange and The Apple


The city of Retroville. A prosperous metropolis in the middle of the Texan desert. Home of resident boy genius, Jimmy Neutron. It was the last day of school, and boys and girls of every age flooded the park with screams of freedom. The annual exodus of the children from the land of homework and school lunches had begun. Jimmy waited impatiently outside the front door of the school, scanning the gleeful crowd coming from within the oppressive institution.

“Come on, where are they?” he murmured, leaning against the statue beside the school.

“Hey Neutron!” someone yelled. He turned to see Libby and Cindy coming towards him. He sighed.

“What do you want, Cindy?” he called back, turning his eyes back to the crowd.

“Relax, Neutron. We just wanna know why you’re hanging around the school on the last day. Are you that much of a nerd that you wanna make it last as long as possible?
Jimmy rolled his eyes.

“If you must know, I’m just waiting for Carl and Sheen to come out.” As if on cue, the pair came down the front steps. “Ah, there they are.” Jimmy said.

“Sorry we’re late, Jim.” Carl apologized. “Sheen had to finish cleaning out his locker.” Sheen patted a hand on the purple duffle bag he held.

“Gotta get these action figures back home.” he explained. “But first I wanna see that new invention you were talking about in lunch.” Carl nodded vigorously.

“Well, come on. The hovercar’s in the parking lot.” Jimmy said, signaling them to follow him.

“A new invention? Can we come?” Libby asked. Jimmy considered them a moment.

“Sure, I guess. But remember, girls behind the yellow line.”

“Fine.” Cindy spat, rolling her eyes.

The all piled into the hovercar and took off towards their neighborhood. As they flew low through the streets of town, Cindy leaned over and whispered to Libby, “What was that about?”

“Come on,” Libby whispered back. “Aren’t you a little curious?” Cindy sighed. She had nothing to counter back with. She was curious.

Down in Jimmy’s lab, the group stood around a large machine under a grey tarp. Cindy, with Libby behind the yellow line, spoke first.

“So what’s the newest possible endangerment to the town and/or our lives?” she said with a smirk on her face.

“I’d thought you’d say that.” Jimmy commented, also smirking. “But this invention has only an 18.57% change of causing any mayhem. And now, without further ado, I give you…” He ripped off the tarp with a flourish, revealing a large white cylinder shaped chamber, with a long vertical handle, like a refrigerator. Connected to it was a large computer of some kind, with a screen and keyboard, designed to look like an arcade game console.

“…The Metamorphosis Pod!” Jimmy finished, staring back at his friends with the half crazy look that always accompanied the presentation of new inventions.

“So, what does it do? Turn people into butterflies?” Sheen asked, flapping his arms to demonstrate his point. Carl gasped.

“Can I be a butterfly, Jimmy?” he asked, jumping up and down with excitement. Jimmy smiled good naturedly at Carl.

“Sorry, Carl. It can’t change you into a butterfly, not yet anyway.”

“So what does it do?” Libby piped up from the back.

“It enables you to change your outward appearance at will. Here let me demonstrate.” At these words, Carl quickly tried to hide behind Sheen. Jimmy chuckled.

“Relax, Carl. I’ll use this.” He pulled an orange out of nowhere, and pulled the handle on the chamber. Placing the orange in the floor of the chamber, he glanced at his friends with a gleam in his blue eyes as he shut the door.

“Ok, all you do is type what you want it to look like here.” He typed the words RED APPLE onto the screen. “And press the button.” He said, slamming his hand onto a big red button next to the keyboard.

Lights flashed above the screen and strange mechanical whirlings could be heard from the chamber. And then, with a tiny ding, it was done.

Jimmy opened the chamber door. White smoke billowed out from it, disappearing as it crossed the floor. Jimmy reached in, and pulled out, sure enough, a red apple.

“Cool!” Carl cooed in an awed murmur. Jimmy smiled.

“Now watch this.” He took out a mini laser and sliced the apple in half. Inside, instead of an apple core, there were the characteristic wedges of an orange cross section.

“Wow Jimmy! This is actually amazing!” Libby exclaimed, her eyes twinkling. “Can you do people too?”

“I actually designed it for humans I’m thinking about selling the blueprints to the government, to help with the Witness Protection Program.”

“How long were you working on this, Neutron?” Cindy asked.

“You have no idea. It took me a month to just research all the different styles of mustaches. The only thing it can’t do is change you eye color, cause I didn’t feel like trying to work out the bugs if it accidentally made you blind. And no,” he said as Sheen opened his mouth to speak. “You can’t make yourself look like Ultralord.”

“Aw man.” Sheen said.

Excellent job, Beks! And don't rush TOO much on the chapters. We wouldn't want you to neglect your homework or give yourself another headache. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be great. It'll be worth the wait! Huzzah!

I agree with Snazzo, though, I AM kinda disappointed you had to put your two other fics on hold. However, this has an intriguing plot line so far. You've sucked me into ANOTHER fic...already...
