[Mara=^.^=]

Hey everyone!
Since the proverbial angry mob is after me :angrymob: for STILL not having released the rest of volume 4, I thought I'd post something to divert your attention...err I mean keep you entertained while you wait.

So, as you probably would have guessed, TOSOT went through a bazillion revisions and alterations before finally reaching its current form. Want to know some of the crazy ideas I tried out, then discarded? OK! This should be entertaining.

STORYLINE REJECTS

-TOSOT grew out of 2 different fanfic ideas:

1) The first was called "Nothing's Fair in Love and War", and it centered on two warring alien races whose leaders were in love, yet doomed to kill one another. I abandoned this idea because it didn't really relate to the main characters except for the fact that hey, Cindy and Jimmy learned that fighting = not good.

2) The second idea was simply a story based on the idea of what would happen if Future Jimmy were evil. However, I couldn't write it because nick.com's rules stated that "flashback" or "flashforward" fics (fics where the characters were not the same age as in the show) were not allowed. And so the alternate universe scheme was born, all as a big honking loophole around nick.com's stupid rule.

DICTATOR JIMMY

-My Dad was the one who came up with the name "Dictator Jimmy" after a LONG discussion between the two of us. His first suggestion for the name was "The Jiminator" but that hardly conjures up the image of a cold-blooded killer, now does it? Obviously I thought better of his first suggestion.

-Dictator Jimmy was not meant to be hot, at least physically. It just kind of HAPPENED when I drew him. Oops.

-While I always planned for Jimmy to have been exposed to the Megalomanium, I was originally going to have him revert to his former personality from time to time at random intervals. When in his right mind, he'd desperately try to correct his mistakes or to reach out for help...in one scenario, by writing Aurora a series of anonymous letters signed "Forever Yours, Solitude". I abandoned this idea in the end because it was confusing and seemed a bit too soap operish. It would have also made his character too pitiable and his relationship with Aurora less intense.

AURORA

-Aurora's character wasn't actually based on the show in any way. I actually modified it along the way to make her seem more like a grown-up Cindy. Aurora is a compilation of 2 characters of mine: Evie, a 17 year old girl struggling to survive without others in a post-apocalyptic world, and some random girl in a space suit that I sketched one night while trying to draw Sango.

-Aurora's original character wasn't angry, but wistful, tormented, and colder than ice. Years of war and killing had left her devoid of emotions and unable to feel anything. I decided that this was way too emo and that I should give the poor girl a fighting chance.

-OK, Weirdness: My Mom, who is one of my biggest fans :lol:, HATES Aurora with a burning passion. Don't ask me why...she's always trying to get me to kill her off. Which I will NOT do, thank you very much.

APRIL

-April came into the story simply as a bit of self-fanservice. I'd always liked the chemistry between Cindy and April during the fight scenes in Win, Lose, and Kaboom, and that Charlie's Angels maneuver where they run up each other's feet got me thinking...those two would make an AWESOME combat team. So, I decided to make myself happy and have the two join up.

-April is, I feel, my least successful character, at least from an author's point of view. I could have done SO much more to develop her character, but instead I let her take a back seat to everyone else. BAD MARA - chides self -


FUTURE LIBBY

-Future Libby went through more changes than any other character. She was always intended to be living with the Monks of Shangri Llama when they found her, but in the original storyline, I intended for her to be suffering from full-blown amnesia brought on by the horrible things she had seen. She couldn't even recognize her best friend, and her only memories of the past were the nightmares that plagued her nightly. In the end, I decided that TOSOT already had enough traumatized individuals and that someone had to hold the proverbial candle of hope for the other characters, as it were. So, Future Libby seemed like the right one for the job.

-Future Libby is my only "good" character. Everyone else has either killed people or has ulterior motives and hidden agendas. She was also supposed to be the most physically beautiful character in the fanfic, but somehow my drawings never quite do her justice. Oh well.

FUTURE SHEEN

- Future Sheen is the only unchanged character from my original story plans. Also, he loves you Gwen.

FUTURE CARL

-I initially intended to kill off Future Carl at the end of TOSOT simply because I didn't (and still don't) have ANY clue what to do with him. Carl is so pointless. Writing for him has been a 120+ page exercise in futility.

OTHER RANDOM STUFF

-I originally started writing JN fanfiction for my little cousin...kyosgirl11, as you know her. Ironically, she refuses to read TOSOT on the grounds that it's too long and she's not a good enough reader. I am thoroughly miffed by this, so if you're reading, kyosgirl11, go and start the goshdang story! :mad: . . . ^_^

-One of my goals with TOSOT was and is to make a story with strong, militarily competent female characters. Future Libby is really my only girly-girl.

THE FUTURE OF TOSOT

-I still have no ending for this story. I've got it all worked out till right before the end, then nothing. It's gonna be a surprise for everybody to see what happens...I won't know until I actually write it.

-Since I can never publish or sell this story because I don't own Jimmy Neutron, I might take some of the characters I made up (like Aurora and Future Sheen, obviously with a different name) and rework everything to make the story original. I'm not sure...I just really like the characters and the concepts, and I don't want to see them die.


OK, well, if you actually read this whole thing you are either very obsessed or very patient. Either way, I applaud your attention span. So ya, any other questions about stuff I was going to do/plan to do with TOSOT?
It might be another week before volume 4 comes out, so you might as well ask. At least it will give you something to do.

Well, that was quite the interesting insight! Thanks for the extra info, Mara, it was really intriguing! :D

...Plus it'll keep your oodles of fans happy for an extra week, unless they have the disability to pay attention to anything but your story. Which'd suck, because the angry mob might get out of hand, attack you and then proceed to attempt world domination using string cheese and boiled potatoes.

Anyway, that was neat to know. :D No ending? You irresponsible writer, you! Nah, just kidding. You'll probably astound us all (and yourself!) with incredibleness, no matter how you plan on finishing TOSOT.

-"The Jiminator" is a funny name actually it sounds like a Monster Truck lol and I'm gled yo draw him like that!! :P
-i thought that cindy and april made a great team too that's one of the reasons I love this fic so much!!
-gwen must "b really happy with that statement" = wedding plans
-I was thinking of that too this story is so well written that I swer I'll cry when it's over oh! so many memories!!
-well I'm very obsessed and very patient, besides this was interesting. oh, and have you noticed that the abreviation(sp?) of ur fic (TOSOT) is alike to that movie TSOTSI, just with one 'i' in the end... and two 's'...and just one 'o' ...and the order it's different...well never mind....
