Hugh lifted a hand and waved it when Cindy greeted him. "'Ey there, li'l Miss Vortex!" he responded with a wide smile.
The conversation between the two kids beginning to grow, his attention wandered to the window for a while, since he usually had no interest in what the younger generation liked to talk about. However, at Jimmy's last words, he piped up to make another uninvited suggestion.
"You two could work together and find out more about all this strange stuff that's happening all over Retroville," he commented. "You're the two smartest kids in town, am I right? So, go get 'em!" He paused and then frowned and spoke with a strange seriousness that seemed sudden and unusual, since his tone previously had been so joviant and loud, like it usually was. "Seriously, kids. This could get bad if you don't do anything about it."

Jimmy, hearing his father's suggestion, furrowed his eyebrows in concentration. Pushing the nearly empty milkshake cup away from himself, he toyed with his fingers for a couple clock ticks. "Me? Working with Vortex?" he scoffed, "I'd rather attempt to dunk a cat in a lake and then hug it. That's like asking death to come and visit your front door."

"Jim, that's rude," sighed the man. "I mean, if you two don't want to work on this weird thingy together, you don't have to, but wouldn't it go faster with two brains working on it instead of one, no matter how large it may be?"
He paused to let his words sink in--even if he was a little hollow-minded, Hugh had basic common sense, at least, even if that also seemed absent sometimes.
Adjusting his glasses and glancing out the window again, he went on. "Y'can't let your li'l... tiffs get in the way of what's the best thing for the town," he pointed out. "You have to admit randomly occuring amnesia's weird, and it might even be dangerous, now that I really think about it."

Just then, the Candy Bar's front door opened on a dark haired girl listening to her iPod, Libby Folfax danced into the room humming to the hip-hop song she was listing to intently. She looked over to her friends and she breezed over to see what they were up to. Looking for some fun she asked, "What's up guys?"

In response to Jimmy's shocked comment, Hugh simply gave him another wide smile. "'Course I did, son!"
As he continued to listen to the genius's mutterings and heard Cindy's offer for peace, a brow arched and he gave the boy a look over the tops of his spectacles that very clearly said, 'accept or you're grounded for a year'. Jimmy wanted the best for the town--he always did, and the man knew that. The thing was, though, that sometimes his frustration with Cindy got in the way. Hugh'd have to make sure that didn't happen this time. Even if he didn't seem worried and acted like the epidemic of amnesia was nothing serious, he knew it had to be. Anyone would have to be aware of the utter strangeness of the situation.
His brown eyes were diverted away from the two teens, though, when the doors opened and Libby made her entrance. He wasn't very acquainted with her, since she was more of Cindy's friend than Jimmy's, but he at least knew her name. Nonetheless, his greeting consisted of nothing but a little wave and a smile.

Libby slid the tiny white ear buds out and paused her song to greet her friend's waving father, "Hey, Mr. N!" She smiled at the young genius' quirky father. She stands next to her best friend, Cindy Vortex, wondering what they are arguing about now.

Jimmy was extremely startled by Cindy's hand (not to mention his father's unexpected glare that followed), so he sucked up his pride and shook hands with Cindy. "Truce," he agreed. The light tinkering of a bell sounded over the door, he peered up just in time to see Libby waltzing in with iPod in hand. Lifting his eyebrows when Libby greeted his father, he waved his hand. "It's nice to see you around... Libby?" his gesture of kindess went only so far, due to Jimmy not really knowing Libby all that well.

The usual, goofy grin returned to Hugh's features as Jimmy accepted Cindy's offer for peace--finally, after all these years. It was probably only going to end up temporary, though, knowing those two.
When Libby spoke, Hugh took it upon himself to answer her. "Oh, they were about to go investigate all that strange stuff happening around town and probably end up saving the world again! Right, kids?" He beamed at them.
