[Mara=^.^=]

Hey everyone! In my ongoing attempt to stall while Volume 4 of TOSOT sits unfinished on my hard drive, I have made this contest. Ta-da! :bff:

So, here's how it works. I'm always drawing random sketches of my characters in my notebooks and stuff, so I've amassed quite the collection of sketches that have never seen the light of day. I was flipping through some old drawings the other day and I found one of Aurora that, to me, seemed like it had potential. Something about it suggested a story, a greater meaning, so I decided to quickly scan it into my computer and use it for this contest. The resolution's kinda crappy, but oh well, it's just a pen sketch. There are actually 2 versions of the picture...they are very similar but slight facial differences convey different meaning.

To enter the contest, choose one of the two pictures (whichever one you like better) and write a snapshot about what is going on storywise at the time that photo was snapped. It's like back-engineering a story...like if you tried to write the story of someone's life by looking through their photo albums. So, at the moment of this picture, what's going on? Who's around? What is Aurora thinking? Why is she there? What do her surroundings look like? I left the picture simple and intentionally vague so that more is left up to your imagination. :wub: Your snapshot can be any length, from blurb to 5 page short story. The only requirement is that it has to include the phrase "No Guns Necessary". It can be told in 1st or 3rd person, so feel free to get as creative as you want.

The prize is, in my opinion at least, pretty sick (in the good way). I'll draw an ultra-hott (OMG pun) of Future Sheen for the winner (or if the winner is a guy, Future Libby). Yup.

I'm sooo gonna write a story! When I first saw the pictures I thought there was no difference, but then I saw a tear rolling down Auora's cheek in the first one.

Um, can the phrase no guns necessary be changed?
For example Guns aren't neceassary.

Well, you can add words, but you can't exclude the word no, guns, or necessary. For example, you could write "No guns are necessary" just not "Guns aren't necessary". Still, I'd really prefer if you stuck with the original "No Guns Necessary", since the phrase SHOULD play in to your take on the story. Hope this makes sense. :blink:

Here's my entry (it's based on the version with the tear):

“So, Vortex. Ten years. Ten long years and we meet face to face again,” the dictator circled her, heartlessly.

“Ten years is way too long, Neutron,” she spat at him.

Dictator Jimmy chuckled. “You’ve been planning this the whole time, haven’t you? Waiting and watching for the perfect moment,” he said. “Cindy—”

Aurora cut him off. “It’s Aurora.”

“Aurora, then. I don’t think you’ve thought your plan all the way through,” he said, searching her eyes.

April chose that moment to burst through the door. “I have the artillery!” she stated.

“No guns necessary.” Aurora stuck out her hand and it started to glow a neon green. Dictator Jimmy merely glanced at it.

To say April was surprised would be an understatement. “But, Aurora, your plan was—”

“I know what the plan was!” she snapped. “I’ve redone my plan. Made it newer. Better, even. Guns won’t be used today.”

April got her meaning and nodded. Dictator Jimmy seemed bored.

“Can we get on with this?” he said.

Aurora rushed at him. He quickly side stepped and tried to punch her in the head. She dodged it.

“Cindy, Cindy, Cindy,” he shook his head. He ignored her angered look. “You’ve got to do better than that.”

She bolted at him again but he put his hands up, which were glowing blue. Their energy was fired at each other but it was evenly matched.

Dong, dong.

April looked up at the silver clock placed on the farthest wall. Twelve A.M. The two were focused into each others eyes. The dictator was looking for a weakness while Aurora concentrated on her anger towards the man.

There was a bright blast of purple energy knocking Dictator Jimmy over. April twirled her plasma ray and blew on it.

Aurora jumped on Dictator Jimmy and pinned his arms and legs down. She brought her hand above her head and it glowed an even brighter green than before. For a second she thought she saw sadness flash in the dictator’s eyes. A single sapphire tear rolled off her face.

--if you don't mind I want to continue on with this now that the winner was chosen--

"Aurora, the vile!" she heard herself think.

"April, smash the vile!" Aurora suddenly commanded.

"Aurora--" April started.

"DO IT!"

April's hands flew into her waist pack, and her fingers entwined around a small bottle. She took out a pistol and put the vile in the bullet holder.

BANG! SMASH!

April had just shot the vile out of the gun. It shattered into a million pieces, a particularly sharp piece cutting her on the brow. Purple blood streamed down her face, but April didn't seem to notice.

Cough, cough, cough!

The dictator stood up, now free from Aurora's weight on his body. When the mist had cleared, he searched the room with teared and tried eyes. The perfect blue irises rested into Aurora's emerald green ones.

Jimmy stepped forward, but fell out of exhuastion. Aurora was too stunned to try and catch him, so April did the honors. Blue eyes locked with purple and pink tears streamed down April's face.

"It is done," she whispered.

Oh, this is SUCH a good entry Gwen! I love how you incorporated April into the fight - I'm afraid I leave her out too often :rolleyes:

Nice use of colors, dialogue, and of course emotion. The length is great: it offers just enough info without giving too much. Oh, and I LOVE the ending. You rock! :rock:
