There's only so much "wah wah wah I'm emo. Death destruction and decay" that I can put up with before I have to watch the Happy Show Show.
Oh Crys, you fill my days with roflcopters...

Like Pokemon to Dragon Drive to Katekyo Hitman Reborn, all three have both comedy and some dark action in it. Oh and GetBackers, forgot to add that. I've been getting really into anime latley

Mostly, I like lighthearted things. (There are some exceptions, of course.)

As far as tv is concerned (and to a lesser extent movies, which I don't really watch as much), I prefer lighthearted with a few darker moments or story arcs thrown in, or something that is designed from the get-go to be a balance between the two. This is pretty easy to achieve in cartoons, which forms the majority of what I watch.
For books, I like either a balance of the two or something on the darker side with a happy or at least hopeful ending, with occasional comic relief or lighter moments to break the doom and gloom. Though I do like reading some books that are more on the lighthearted and funny side now and then, to bring my mood up. Mostly middle grade, though. I like a lot of goofiness and whimsy in middle grade.
