Edit-Um...I'm sorry! That wasn't a very good example! I'll try and think of a better one. One that actually goes with what you are saying!

And this phenomenon certainly isn't unique to the JN fandom. Lots of other fandoms do it too - for example, in the Avatar fandom, Zutara fans often paired Aang with Toph so that he wouldn't end up all by his onesy once his love interest (Katara) was with another guy. That sort of logic always bothered me - you should like a ship because you find it interesting, not because you're trying to get another character out of the way.

But, yeah, I think it is kinda dumb when someone ships two together when they don't have any reason for them to be together or show an interest in eachother, only 'cause you ship their usual companions off...no offense, though, some people lkke to do it, but I agree its pointless, John.

Shippers of those couples like J/B can get seriously ticked off, I know I have if its the only reason. Now if you've actually thought the pairing through for actual reasons to like them & compatability, then kudos to you! I'll never ship N/B in a million years, but if you can support it for geniune reasons & not just cause of J/B & N/C, then I'll respect your opinion 100%!
I can think of hundreds of these, just not right now. I've even been guilty of a couple of them. Mr. Moseby from The Suite Life, I hated how the fandom just adored the idea of him & Carey together, & I'm sure one big reason was its love/hate. (mostly cause of her twins, but still) So cause I love Arwin's crush on her, (TOO CUTE) I was SO hyper for days when I found Moseby & the kids' teacher miss Tutwhiler from the spin-off really seemed to like each other until the Three Stooges (a fave of Moseby's but definitely NOT miss Tutwhiler's) came into play. If Mr. Moseby never likes her again, I'll accept it, (he's never shown fondness to being married & having kids anyways) but the fandom REALLY gets on my nerves cause of CM. Its the same thing as the N/B problem among others. So I'll admit to having played this game here, but the fandom can really screw up my thinking sometimes & be desprate enough to play the Get Away Pairings card once in awhile. x3
I usually don't fall to this sorta thing, but sometimes.......UGH.

I like N/B simply because I cooked up this whole elaborate storyline where they fall for each other while doing another school play (I honestly think they'd get the leads, since they're obviously both good actors who seem to like performing). Of course, this couldn't happen until both characters were developed a bit more. I'd like to see that - Nick had a greater role in the movie (even if it was a negative one), and I wish we knew more about his inner thoughts/home life etc. Likewise, Betty is somewhat underrepresented in the series and is only known in the context of Jimmy having a crush on her. I'd like to know more about both of them separately.
That is one thing that I preferred about Hey Arnold - almost all of the characters (and there were a ton!), no matter how secondary, seemed to get at least one episode focusing on them. Consequently, the series was populated with fully fleshed, well-rounded out characters.
JN needed more time

I would agree with you Mara about JN needing more time, if not for the fact I'm just SO sure that it'd be constant J/C every other episode, that getting more J/B out of it would've been near impossible.

Same here. I loved that about Hey Arnold. You knew a lot about everyone. I agree that the characters should have been more developed in the series than they were.
You could still do something with Nick and Betty as a pairing, though. Just develop them yourself. that's what fanfiction is for
And I totally agree with pretty much everyone that pairing people up just for the sake of it is really unoriginal and just blah. I would never pair Nick with Betty or Brittany just because it's convenient. I would pair him with Jimmy or Sheen

But I don't think that's proof. I mean, I said that my neighbor's (male) toy dog was cute, and stared at it, but I'm straight as the line x=1.

Exactly! I think more time given to JN developing characters would've made all the difference.

Ha, the first time I read that I thought you were saying that Nickelodeon was gay, as opposed to Nick Dean being gay...
But I don't think that's proof. I mean, I said that my neighbor's (male) toy dog was cute, and stared at it, but I'm straight as the line x=1.
LOL, I was joking. I don't actually think Nick is gay - I was just engaging in a little humorous repartee with the lovely Mary~

You'd do WHAT?? Honestly, girl, I've NO earthly idea how your mind WORKS that way. Jimmy and Nick and Sheen are NOT gay. Period. And I totally agree with pretty much everyone that pairing people up just for the sake of it is really unoriginal and just blah.
